Sometimes you look around and realize that you’re that guy. You know, the guy that just spent $260 on an open faced luxurious, supple, smooth, rugged and beautiful… tool bag?
Alright, it hurts the bank account a fair bit more than a standard variety tool bag that you saw last weekend at the hardware store. The one happily waiting on the shelf like a puppy waiting to be adopted from the pet store. You may be sucked in by the alluring price tag below the fabric covered, molded plastic frame that reads $29.99. If you cave and give in to that inner everyman, then move on to another review. This writeup and more than that, this bag, is not your style.
The VETO XL is the open-top tool bag that that you wish you had the moment you pick it up. The reason? Because you’re picking it up from the stout plastic handle that is connected all the way to the base of the bag through a middle divider that doubles as a place to hold more tools. One solid, sexy polypropylene creation.
In describing the P80 kit, we covered why it is so important to use an open-top tool bag for first-order retrievability (covered here, here and here), so you already know why this design is necessary. What you did not know was necessary was 44 pockets of various sizes, PVC-impregnated 1800-denier waterproof nylon, marine-grade rivets, heavy duty coil zippers and double stitching.
Hang on on a second! PVC-impregnated nylon? Do you need to worry about what happens when this love child of PVC and nylon is birthed? The answer is no. What you need to worry about is what you’re going to put in this masterpiece of tool bags. Quality almost always begets more quality. Which means, half of your existing tools will have to be replaced. This is not the tool bag to fill up with dollar store tools you got when you first moved out of the house and your father wouldn’t let you take any of his good tools. The other half of your tools will be excited that they have earned a spot in one of the coveted 44 pockets.
But if you buy this bag, be prepared. You will be that guy. However, being that guy in this case means you will have one of the best, if not the best, open faced tool bags on the market today. If we had a complaint about this bag, it’s that all of the quality comes at a monetary cost, but also comes at a cost in weight. Your arm muscles might go through some pain while lugging this thing around. We like to think of it as the bag’s way of making sure you’ve earned the right to own it; but in all seriousness, it is quite a load after filled with tools.
If you can handle the financial and physical weight of a purchase like this, you will not be disappointed. If you need something a bit lighter, see our other tool bag reviews for other options. But don’t say we didn’t warn you…
